WTF is MAZAIBUZAI?
MAZAIBUZAI (aka Benjamin) is a multi-genre electronic music producer, visual artist, and performer. His productions and remixes are saturated with heavy undertones, poignant melodies, and intricate collages of sound. With a background in classical piano and piano improvisation, Benjamin draws on a deep reservoir of sonic possibility and musical complexity.
He has shared the stage with numerous accomplished acts throughout the country, recently returning from a sweaty summer with The Suicide Denial on the Vans Warped Tour in 2011. You may have also seen him on stage at the Viper Room, Hotel Cafe, or the House of Blues on Sunset. His innovative work as a live keyboardist continues to inject a raw edge into his productions and stage performance.
Mazaibuzai has just released an 11-track solo album titled “Horse Here Not Here.” This collection of experimental tunes is full of home-grown broken beats, recombinant synthesizers, dystopian romanticism, with no shortage of viscerally cinematic moments. It is available at shop.mazaibuzai.com and in all other major digital retailers soon.
He’ll also be unleashing a new live show this year, so hurry over to Facebook and “like” your way into the loop for details, updates, and digital friendship ;P
Influences include Yasutaka Nakata, Fischerspooner, Trent Reznor, Portishead, Trentemoller, & Thom Yorke.

btw…the name is inspired by a period in my life when I lived in Taiwan for a couple years. “Ma” became my last name in chinese (which incidentally also means horse). Zai Bu Zai (Here/Not Here) is a vague reference to existentialism…or whatever…i dunno. The phrase Mazaibuzai literally means “horse here not here?” and is posed as a rhetorical question.
peace
